(Stoker, Bram) Deane, Hamilton and John Balderston
Dracula: The Vampire Play in Three Acts
Los Angeles, Federal Theatre Projects, n.d. [circa 1938], 1938. First Edition. 0 pp. Soft cover. Original script. v + 79 pages bound by a metal clip in two holes on the lefthand margin. Mimeographed. If this was originally issued in wrappers, only the rear wrapper remains. Light edgewear, but overall a fine example of an uncommon Dracula text. Deane and Balderston's play is the basis for both the Bela Lugosi movie and the later Frank Langella movie of Stoker's novel as well as the root source for many, if not most, Dracula adaptations. This script probably dates from between 1933 (the publication date of a Samuel French acting edtion) and 1938 (the production date of play by the Federal Art Project). Although a copy of the original poster for the 1938 production of the play is in the Library of Congress, we can find no copies of this script in any location. Near Fine.
